MD Special Olympics (June 12, 2010)
Please hold this date on your calendar: Saturday, June 12, 2010 9:30 am – 4:00 p.m.--Special Olympics/Special Smiles Program to be held at Towson University in the University Union/Potomac room. For those of you who have participated in this event before, you know how much the Special Olympics competition means to the athletes. It is the premier event in the state resulting from year-long, local athletic competitions. Our Special Smiles organization will provide oral health screenings, athletic mouthprotectors, fluoride varnish and education for the athletes. We are working in collaboration with the other Special Olympics Healthy Athletes professional organizations (such as Opening Eyes, Healthy Hearing, Fit Feet, and Health Promotion) to promote healthy living among the athletes and would love to again have DDS, post-grads, and DHYG students along with faculty and dental professionals from the community participating in this event. We had an awesome turnout of dental school students and professionals participating last year. For the dental and dental hygiene volunteers, I can guarantee you will leave that day with a huge smile on your face.
If you're interested in participating, please email me and identify what time you can participate. For licensed dentists and dental hygienists, you will receive continuing education credit. All attendees must complete a 1 hour didactic component which will emailed to you and all will receive CE certificates of attendance for the 1 hour didactic course as well as for all the participatory screening hours
