Advances in Restorative Dentistry

Featuring:

Flavio Rasetto, DDS, MS, FACP

AGD 610 - Fixed Prosthodontics

CE Credits: 8 Lecture/Participation

16 Participation with homework

Course Description:

Ceramic restorations are one of the most commonly used restorative dental materials in the market. There are different systems available today and they provide unique opportunities to mimic nature in restoring patient's tooth structure. These materials have the optical, functional and biological properties close to natural dentition and there are many systems available with advantages and disadvantages, indications and contra-indications that create difficulties in practitioners recognizing what the system is and when and how to prescribe it.

This lecture will provide an overview of the CEREC system (Chairside 1 appointment restoration) along with the history and evolution of digital dentistry.  We will discuss equipment and armamentarium, types of restoration and materials, preparation design and scanning protocols.  The seminar will review diagnosis and treatment plan options, including live demonstration and clinical presentations of restoration designs.

For the hands-on portion of the seminar, participants will engage in indirect restorations and the design process of a crown.  Participants will prepare a crown at blue stage, characterized and crystallized using Emax CAD, and crown fabrication in zirconia.

Learning Objectives:

Participants in this course will become knowledgeable in the following areas:

  • Learn how a digital scanner (Primescan AC center) is used, advantages, disadvantages, and method of use

  • Learn the different types of design or restorations and different kinds of dental ceramics blocks for same day treatment

  • Through clinical presentations, learn the types of clinical outcomes from single restorations to more complex reconstructions using a CAD-CAM system (CERECT Acquisition Center and in House Milling System)

  • Learn about long term outcomes with restorations completed during the last decade

  • Re-contour, glaze, and crystalize a crown for one appointment dental service
