Course Description:
This course will provide an update on Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) radiation biology, radiation safety and dosimetry geared towards the general dental practice. We will then review a few basics of gross human anatomy with correlation to what is seen in CBCT’s. After the anatomy review, we will consider selected cases of CBCT pathology to illustrate the importance of a structured, systematic process for reviewing CBCT’s. Finally, we will spend the majority of the course using Carestream and Anatomage InVivo Dental CBCT viewers to review anonymized cases in an assisted, collegial format to facilitate the learning of CBCT technology.
Course Objectives:
Participants in this course will gain knowledge in the following areas:
-
Appreciate the effects of Dental CBCT radiation and overall health effects
-
Correlate radiographic findings with the patient’s anatomy
-
Recognize common radiographic abnormalities in the maxillofacial region as seen in Dental CBCT’s
-
Develop a plan for managing pathology detected on Dental CBCT’s
