Course Description:
​

This virtual CE seminar is designed to educate dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and others about the problems of child abuse and neglect, bullying, intimate partner violence, elder abuse and neglect, and human trafficking.  At the completion of this CE seminar, participants will be able to:

 

  • Describe the background, effects and risk factors of abuse, bullying, neglect and stalking on children, vulnerable adults, elderly, intimate partners and victims of human trafficking.
     

  • Differentiate the physical findings that may be mistaken for abuse including injuries occurring from accidents, genetic and acquired conditions, infections, and cultural practices.

 

  • Explain oral health professionals’ ethical and legal responsibilities regarding reporting abuse and neglect, implementing appropriate screening questions, and eliminating reporting barriers.

 

  • Identify appropriate local and national agencies to report abuse and neglect.


This course fulfills the required 2 CE credits on abuse and neglect prevention needed every other license renewal cycle for Maryland licensed dentists and dental hygienists.

About the Speaker:
​

Dr. Charles Doring, a native of Garrett Park, Maryland, graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School at Baltimore. Afterwards, he completed his residency in hospital dentistry at Georgetown University. Dr. Doring received his Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry in 1995. Dr. Doring has a special interest in treating children, elderly patients, and the physically and mentally compromised. Dr. Doring is a firm believer in Continuing Education, and is active in several dental societies. He has held office in these societies at the state, regional, and national level.
