2021 Speaker Series - Infection Control

This presentation provides an introduction to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the general requirements normally applicable in the dental setting. This is followed by a review of infection control and the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, OSHA requirements and CDC recommendations. The participants will be provided with recommendations and requirements for infection control prior to, during and after patient care. Basic fundamentals of the chain of infection and modes of transmission are reviewed, followed by a review of hand hygiene, PPE, surface disinfection and the Hazard Communication Standard, instrument processing, waterline maintenance and amalgam separators. Common myths and realities in the context of regulations, a culture of safety, recommendations and evidence-based infection control protocols will also be discussed during the presentation.
